We exist to train leaders to equip people to reflect Christ.
Why we exist.
The Engaged Church initiative started in 1998 and is a ministry of Wheaton Press.
Our mission is to train pastors and leaders to equip people to reflect Christ. Our heart is to serve Christ and His church by sharing His principles and process for equipping people to become spiritually mature.
The initiative was born out of the frustrated and exhausted heart of a pastor who longed to see Christ reflected in and through the lives of the people he served.
Are people in your church being informed or transformed?
The harsh reality is that all too often pastoral training fails to equip pastors to ensure that their churches are places where learning is the constant and teaching is the variable.
Seminaries and Bible schools prepare us to exegete the biblical texts and deliver biblical sermons that will engage and educate, but they typically leave us ill-prepared to exegete and teach to the hearts of those who come to hear us, and they certainly do not equip us to assess if real learning has taken place. Without an accurate way to measure, we are often tempted to celebrate success when we simply see people return next Sunday, or when an individual takes a step of involvement in a church class or program. Without an accurate way to measure the heart, we are left to measure attendance, actions, attitudes, and behaviors without ever measuring whether or not true application and transformation have occurred.
What is Christ's model of ministry?
Christ taught His disciples to assess hearts in a way that they could teach to the hearts of individuals in a way they would understand and that would maximize the fruit of transformation. They modeled this process in their lives and writings as recorded in the rest of the New Testament.
Christ's model is simple, reproducible and sustainable.
The Engaged Church Initiative is committed to training pastors and leaders to identify Christ's model from the Scripture and then walk with your team through the process of implementing His model. Simply put, we practice what we preach, and we celebrate the opportunity to equip other pastors and leaders to do the same in their circles of influence.
